7 Small Business Website Essentials to Help Keep People on Your Website

If your website is missing essential features, you could be missing out on a lot of potential customers and revenue without even knowing it. I’m going to share with you a couple of tips that I think will help your users find your site and stay on your site and hopefully convert into leads on your site.

So the first thing that you’re going to want to have is a clear description of your business, an easy way for users to get in touch with you. The best way that you can do this is to have your contact information located in prominent areas of the site. Typically, this would be your header and your footer area and you’re going to want to have this throughout the entire site. Another important thing that you’re going to want to have is a link to a contact page. Contact page should have information to get in touch with you, such as your phone number, your address. Another great thing that you can have there is a contact form where users can ask questions and get more information without having to contact you directly. So the second thing that you’re going to want on your site is clear navigation, you want to get your users where you want them to go. The best way that you can do this is by having prominent navigation throughout your site. So just like your contact information, you want to have this at the top and the bottom of your site and on every page.

You also want to include a site map somewhere on your site so that you can direct users to basically any of your pages and allows them to see pretty much all that you’ve got on your site. And it may even direct them to pages that they didn’t know existed before. One thing to keep in mind is that your website is a journey for users. So you want to make that journey as simple as possible and get users where you want them to go, where there’s little difficulty as possible on their own. The third thing that you’re going to want to have on your site is easy and clear. Call to action. These are going to tell users exactly what it is you want them to do. So this might be a button that says click here to contact us, or it might be a link that says call us. Now, as clear as you can make this call to action. It’s going to make it easier for your users to do exactly what it is you’re wanting them to do. So one important call to action that you can place on your site is a site Baner. This can be fixed site banner that follows the user as they travel throughout your site. Typically, this would be placed at the bottom or the top of the site, but it’s a great tool that you can use to notify all of your users of important announcements. For instance, updated office hours or new locations opening. So that can be one tool that you can implement onto your site to create an easy to find and noticeable call to action. So another important feature on your site is going to be user experience. And what I mean by that is exactly that. You want your users to have a great experience on your site. Best thing that you can do there is make sure that it loads quickly. Another important thing there also is the design of the site, the visual appeal of it.

So you want to make sure that it’s easy on the eye. Great ways of doing this are making things as simple as possible, having a nice contrast and also making it visually engaging by adding images, videos, headers, things like that, to kind of break up the content and give your users something interesting to see some eye candy. Another important thing that you’re going to want to do is provide your users with a sense of security in a great way of doing this is to use an SSL certificate on your site. This will give you users that sense of security that they might need to fill out that contact form or to give you whatever information it is that you’re looking for to convert them into a lead. Another great thing that you can do to give users a sense of security is to have a secure hosting package and maintenance plan to go along with that. Having that secure hosting package and a maintenance plan ensures that your site is secure, ensures that there’s no malware on the site, and ensures that no one is going to break in and you’re going to have some sort of data breach. So having that secure package ensures that you’re providing the most secure environment for your users. So another important thing that you can add to your site is customer testimonials. These are great ways that you can build trust with your users before they even call you. If you’re like me and you are looking for a product, you’re looking for abuse, you’re reading everything that you can find and your customers are the exact same way. They want to know that they can trust you before they call you. So I would encourage you to leave one or two customer testimonials on your homepage, highlight those testimonials so that they stick out to the user and users immediately know, OK, this company is trustworthy. But also I would include a customer testimonial page where customers can go to that and say, OK, it’s not just one or two people, but it’s a lot of people mean build up that sense of security with the user before they even call you. So the last thing that you’re going to want to have on your site is an easy way to find and to get to your site. When it comes to getting to your site, you’re going to want to have a simple domain. Keep in mind that shorter is simpler. You don’t want to have a super long domain that’s going to be difficult to type out and especially difficult on mobile users as they’re having to type in on their phone. And when purchasing a domain, you’re going to want to make sure that you include a dot com as that’s the most trustworthy domain. And when it comes to finding your site, you’re going to want to have a search engine optimization strategy.

There’s a lot that goes into SEO and it can be very, very complicated and overwhelming. So I would encourage you to reach out and find a partner that you can work with to ensure that you’re ranking as high as possible in Google search results. If your website is missing any of these important features, I would really encourage you to take action.
